Shokodo: A Small Teahouse Rooted in Japanese Culture Located in Takaoka, a city that has nurtured fine arts and crafts for over 400 years since the early Edo period, Shokodo is a small teahouse offering a variety of items deeply rooted in Japanese culture. These include bronze ware, tea utensils, matcha, sencha, tea sweets, incense, and incense burners. We host classes where you can learn about the broad spectrum of "tea culture," from the formalities of traditional tea ceremonies to the simple joys of enjoying tea. Among our offerings, you can experience our original hanging incense burners, crafted with traditional techniques. Additionally, our tatami-style café provides a serene space where you can enjoy freshly prepared matcha, offering a casual and relaxing way to experience tea. Through the culture of tea and fragrance, we aim to deliver items that allow you to feel the essence of Japan's traditional culture in your daily life.

Tea Ceremony Class Information Every Monday, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Observation only: Free of charge. Trial experience (includes matcha, sweets, and instruction by the teacher): ¥1,000. Held every Monday, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. For the beginner’s course, the shop owner will provide instruction and can accommodate your preferred time upon request. No enrollment or annual membership fees. 3-class ticket: ¥6,000 (valid for 2 months). Monthly fee: From ¥5,000 for 3 classes per month. Student discount: 15% off. Includes tea and sweets (Omizuyaryo). Payment Methods Credit cards, smartphone payment, and transportation IC cards are accepted.
